William Shakespeare is known to be the “bard of Avon ” who was born in Stratford- Avon in England in the year 1564. He is also considered as the world’s poet.He is known to be the greatest dramatist of Elizabethen theatre and he got his favour especially from Queen Elizabeth the queen of England.His contribution to the English literature are numberless, Shakespeare plays can be classified into historical plays ,tragically plays and comical plays.Apart from being a playwright he was also a dramatist who worked in the king’s men company otherwise known as Lord Chamberlain’s Company.When it comes to personal life ,he married Anne Hathaway at an early age of 18 where Anne was 8 years older than Shakespeare and the couple gave birth to four children.William Shakespeare was not a fully educated man , He was a man who knew small Latin and less Greek as said by Ben Jonson.William Shakespeare never wrote his works with proper grammar.William Shakespeare works consisted bawdy language, lots of puns ,and he also used iambic pentameter in his works.Addition to this ,William Shakespeare characters can be easily recognized whether they are poor or rich by the language that they used.Fools were considered important by Shakespeare and they were Witty fools.William Shakespeare wrote all his works that satisfied all the social classes especially the groundlings or the poor people.So his works are considered to be irreplaceable and remarkable.
Overview of Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by Shakespeare approximately in the year 1594.William Shakespeare took its source from “The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet” a long narrative poem written by Arthur Brooke.This play consists of 5 acts.Each act consists of 5 scenes.The play is all about two lovers namely Romeo and Juliet who fall in love with each other unaware that they are from the rival families.We find two groups of Royal families in the play Lord Montagues and Lord Cauplets.
Summary of Romeo and Juliet
In the beginning of the play there takes a Brawl between the two servants from the rival Families in the street of Verona.The Brawl gets settled and Later we find Romeo our hero being too depressed in the very first beginning of the play and he gets a chance to meet Juliet in a Masquerade ball and both fell in love with each other and they decide marry each other.Romeo seeks help from a priest and Juliet seeks help from her nurse .Later on they get married.Unfortunately Romeo kills Juliet’s Cousin Tybalt ,and later misunderstandings grew between them but it is resolved later.As a punishment Romeo is supposed to move out of Verona for Killing tybalt,So Romeo escapes to another town and later decides to come back and rescue Juliet.In the Cauplets family Juliet ‘s Father arranges an instant marriage of Juliet with Paris another king.But Juliet refuses and later she pretends as though she accepted it.Finally she decides to seek help from Friar Lawrence and he gives her a poison that can make her dead for only 3 hours.And Juliet’s nurse finds Juliet lying dead and the marriage is now turned into funeral ceremony and Juliet’s body is now taken to the Tomb for the burial.Now a servant from Montague informs about this to Romeo and without knowing the actual truth.He decides to poison himself by getting poison from the Apothecary and rushes to the tomb of Juliet.On the other hand Paris comes to Juliet’s tomb and at the same time Romeo enters the scene and kills Paris.And now Romeo opens the tomb thinking that Juliet is dead and he kisses her and drinks the poison and he dies . Juliet now wakes up and sees Romeo’s dead and now she kisses him and she kills herself with Romeo’s dagger.Now the two rival families enter into the scene and they decide not to have anymore enmity between them.
Theme of Romeo and Juliet
The main theme of ” Romeo and Juliet ” is “Love” Love that is conveyed through death.And it also involves sacrifice both by the lovers as well as the families.It does show us a lot of struggles faced by the young couples and their reciprocated Love.And to the readers shock ,Romeo suddenly shifts his Love from Rosaline to Juliet.Romeo uses love as his weapon to defeat his enemies and he find strength and power from his love.Apart from this we find a connection between hate ,death and Violence and also we find Romeo and Juliet being pushed by their struggles and later to death only because of their families who are rival to each other .Anyway at the end both the families are reunited and there is an end to their enmity and also between the two Lovers” Romeo and Juliet ”
